Happy 4th of July!

July 4, 2009 · Filed Under OC Food News · Comment

Fireworks_in_Ladera The Mrs. and I will be celebrating Independence Day with a house warming 4th of July Party at our home with our family and friends.  I will be cooking a bunch of hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill (memories of my days at Mc. Donalds!)  Remember the freedoms we have are because of those that have fought so bravely for us to be able to celebrate them.

We wish you, your family, and friends a happy and safe 4th of July.

Thank You From Eat in OC

The Bruery – Placentia, St. Veronus Celebration

March 13, 2009 · Filed Under OC Food News · Comment

Have you ever been to The Bruery in Placentia?  It's not really a restaurant, heck it's not even a bar.  The Bruery is an Orange County microbrewery that just also happens to have it's own tasting room.  Every Friday from 2Pm-8PM and every Saturday from 12PM-6PM their tasting room is open to discover and possibly enjoy what could be your next favorite beer.   This Saturday, March 14th from 2-6 PM they will be celebrating St. Patrick's day the Belgian way, by honoring the patron saint of Belgian brewers, St. Veronus!  The celebration will include, Belgian snacks and cheeses, and of course their own Belgian-Style brews!  On top of all that they will be opening up a very special beer for the celebration, Melange #3, which is a complex blend of three unreleased bourbon barrel aged beers (15% ABV!).  I've gone to their events in the past and it's really a fun place to go.  I won't be able to make this celebration but if anyone does happen to attend I'd love to post up your experience and possibly even some pictures if you take them.  Must be 21 or over to enjoy...

Carl’s Jr – Jumbo Chili Dogs

February 27, 2009 · Filed Under OC Food News, OC Food Reviews · 2 Comments
img_0336.jpg Long ago, before I was born Carl Karcher of Carl's Jr. fame used to sell hot dogs and went on to found Carl's Jr. which at one time sold Chili Dogs.  I heard from Nancy over at Fast Food Maven that Carl's Jr. was testing out Chili Dogs in some select Carl's Jr.s in Orange County and the Inland Empire.  I fortunately didn't have to look far as I was able to locate them at the Carl's on 4555 Jurupa St., Ontario, CA, 91761. img_0338.jpg

First thing I have to say is that 3 bucks for 2 Chili Dogs is a steal, especially since these aren't thise sissy sized thinner then your pinky dogs they sell at Wienerschnitzel, these were some jumbo dogs as nearly as thick as my thumb which really impressed me.  Unfortunately the chili wasn't as good as the delicious nector they serve at Wienerschnitzel.  The chili wasn't terrible, I'd say it's not as sweet as I was expecting after being brought up on Chili Dogs from the ' Der (as in der'Wienerschnitzel!) img_0339.jpg

So if I were to rate them as chili dogs, compared to those I've had from Der, PCH, Pink's (at the LA Fair), and Carl's, I'd say the order currently is.

1. PCH
2. Der'Wienerschnitzel
3. Carl's Jr.
4. Pink's (specifically at the LA Fair, never been to a real one)

There you have it.

Just an FYI, I was a real trooper I waited till I got a break at 2 PM to try these out just so I could provide pictures after saying I was going to check them out on Fast Food Maven.

Fullerton College Tomato Sale!

February 25, 2009 · Filed Under OC Food News · Comment

Yesterday in the mail we got a flier for the Fullerton College Horticulture Department annual tomato sale.  I'd never heard of this event, so I'm happy that the previous owners were signed up on their mailing list.  Mrs. DanGarion and I have been looking into planting a vegetable garden in our back yard and what better way to start then with tomatoes!  Anyway for those of you have enjoy cooking as much as you enjoy going out to dinner (I actually love to cook) this is for you.  From 10 AM - 4 PM on Friday March 6th, through Sunday March 8th the FCHD will be open selling over 100 varieties of tomatoes, so if you know the difference from a Black Brandywine and San Marzano Redorta you are in luck and if you don't what better way to find out then to buy them both!

Fullerton College
321 E. Chapman Ave.
Fullerton, CA 92832

The Horticulture Department is located at the extreme north end of the campus, bordering Berkeley Ave.

From the Interstate 5 or 91 Freeway take Harbor Boulevard North to Berkeley Avenue turn right. The Fullerton High School Agriculture Department livestock pens will be on your right.

The driveway into the Fullerton College campus is an immediate right after these pens. If you pass the traffic light at Hornet Way you've gone too far.

The Horticulture Department is on your left going down the driveway and a hard left turn (180 degrees) through the chain-link gate. Offices and class rooms are in the large wooden building with the porch to your left from the fenced parking area.
