DG Burger – Santa Ana

First off we really wanted to like DG Burger in Santa Ana of Charlie Palmer fame. We came with open minds and empty bellies. But from the 1st interaction we had with the staff to the food that was placed before us DG didn’t mean Damn Good to us, it was a warning for us, DON’T GO! The kid that took our order grunted at us instead of saying hi, the guy that I guess was in charge tried to up sell us with no tact and the 12 ounce bottled sodas cost $3.75. I know running a restaurant isn’t cheap, but how hard is it to just give me soda from the fountain and not rip me off for it? I realized I’m at South Coast Plaza but that doesn’t mean you have to take advantage of me. We ended up asking for water and the kid didn’t even tell us that we had to go over and get it ourselves. All this and we hadn’t even sat down for our burger yet.

Once we received our burgers it was obvious from first bite that these burgers weren’t meant to really be that good. They came with overwhelming large chewy meat patties that had little to no seasoning and the only redeeming factor was that there were toppings, I loved the thin cut of tomato, unfortunately you could barely taste them.  Mrs. DanGarion commented that her aged cheddar while visible have no discernible taste due to the large overpowering hamburger patty.  The DG Burger (Black Angus Beef Burger, Cabbage, Tomato, Red Onion, DG Sauce, Semolina Potato Bun) is $7.95 and you can get more toppings for $2 each (Aged Cheddar, Fried Egg, Grilled Bacon, Avocado, Fries). A side of fries is $5 and comes with your choice of dipping sauce (Curry Ketchup, Bacon Mayo, Roasted Garlic Sour Cream, Chipotle Aioli, extra sauces $.75).

The DG Burger, hockey puck and all...

DG Burger is a crappy burger place in disguise as a gourmet burger joint. It could have been so much better especially for a lunch that was nearly $30 for two.

, I mean it when I suggest that the name of this place is Don’t Go Burger…

Nice to see the horrible service at Charlie Palmer extends to their burger joint.

We have never actually had Charlie Palmer, that bad eh?

Evidently they’ve learned nothing since we reviewed them. And the fries look like a smaller portion than what we received in January.

It’s time to wake up, restaurateurs: just because you can push some mince together and slap it on a flat top does not mean you are a great burger joint.

At least you thought the burger was good, my wife and I were both not impressed, but it might have been because we were so wowed by the Burger Parlor the night before.

Heard nothing but bad things about the services, and now that I know the burgers are no good, what’s the point?  Wonder if it’s any worse than Macy’s Signature Kitchen’s poor excuse for burgers…

I haven’t been there, we have almost had it a couple times.

Dan, I am so down with you! I prefer the CP bar menu, their kobe style sliders are great!
