Three Appetizing Types of Salsa

Did you know that the Aztecs were the first people to consume salsa? Salsa is thought to have originated around 3000 BC, but it was not actually given its name until the 16th century. Today, salsa is a staple in not only Mexican and Spanish cuisine, but in American cuisine, as well. There are many types of salsa available, and each one provides its own unique flavor.

1. Classic mild salsa dips. Although this is the most basic form of salsa available, it is also the most important. This is because classic mild salsa contains chopped tomatoes, onions, and peppers, and these vegetables are mixed with a tomato-based sauce. Since classic salsa was the first recipe created, all other salsa recipes follow in its footsteps.

2. Southwestern salsa dips. This type of sauce increases salsa nutrition by adding supplementary vegetables to classic salsa. Black beans and corn, for example, are both present in southwestern salsa recipes. Since southwestern salsa contains a variety of healthy vegetables, salsa nutrition increases in this type of sauce.

3. Pico de gallo salsa dips. This type of sauce adds a unique twist to classic mild salsa. Pico de gallo is a sauce that takes the ingredients found in classic salsa and adds lemon juice and cilantro to them. The resulting product is a chunky, citric type of salsa that is commonly used as a main ingredient in foods such as tacos and fajitas.

What is salsa? Salsa can take many different forms, including classic mild, southwestern, and pico de gallo. Each form of salsa provides its own unique flavor, and they are all staples in Mexican, Spanish, and American cuisine. As a result, you can enhance the flavors of nearly any food dish by using the right type of salsa.
