How Hummus Can Bring the Whole Family Together
Like most other families gearing up for the summer months, you probably want to throw a family day party or two this summer. That means lots of excitement, friends, fun, and of course, food.
Summer dishes naturally tend to be much cooler and lighter than the hot and heavy meals — think hearty soups and stew — served during winter. Sure, classic mild salsa and spicy fresh guacamole are old summer stand bys, but why not shake things up a bit and do something a little different this year when throwing a family day party?
Hummus dips are an excellent accompaniment or side dish for any summer party or get together. It’s flavorful, savory, and has a creamy texture that will win over even the most stubborn taste buds. The best? It’s actually really, really good for you, so much so that many health conscious consumers use hummus to replace other condiments that are high fat, sodium and sugar.
While spontaneous and surprise parties are always a treat, it’s important to plan and meal prep before you throw a family day party. Prepping makes the process of a whole lot easier and much less stressful. Homemade hummus dip is easy to make and can be made the night before the party is to start.
If you’re brand new to the wonderful world of hummus, creating a homemade recipe can seem a bit intimidating, however, it’s really simple. Combine cooked and pureed chickpeas (you can use fresh or canned depending on your preference) with fresh garlic, lemon juice, and a pinch of sea salt and voila! Some hummus dip recipes call for the addition of a ground sesame seed paste called tahini or a drizzle of olive oil. These additions are optional, however.
Use hummus just as you would use any dip or condiment or have fun adding different toppings and flavor combinations.
